Academic/Financial Aid Warning, Suspension and Probation Status

Status in the case of failure to meet Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) standards:

Warning: If a student does not meet the SAP requirements (minimum cumulative GPA (2.0) and/or the 66.67% completion rate) they will receive a notification to improve their academic standing by the end of the next term. A student on warning status is allowed to enroll and receive financial aid.

Suspension: If a student does not meet the minimum cumulative GPA (2.0) and/or the 66.67% completion rate during the warning term, they are suspended and will not be allowed to enroll or receive financial aid for a minimum of one academic year.

Probation: If a student participates in the college's appeals process and the appeal is granted, the student is eligible to enroll and receive financial aid on probation status.

Notification: A student placed on warning, suspension or probation will be notified of their status by US mail and email at the end of each term, including summer. Minnesota State College Southeast will also notify suspended students regarding the process by which a student may appeal for reinstatement.

Abuse of Financial Aid: 

Southeast may immediately suspend a student's financial aid eligibility in cases where such aid is not used appropriately, including but not limited to:

• A student who was previously suspended, then reinstated and their academic performance falls below acceptable standards during a subsequent term of enrollment;
• A student who registers for courses, receives financial aid, and does not attend any classes;
• A student whose attendance patterns abuse the receipt of financial aid.
