Multi Factor Authentication

What is MFA

MFA protects your account and information. You likely have already experienced MFA when interacting with a bank or shopping site where the site sends a text message to your cell phone with a code to enter.

At Southeast, when you log into a Microsoft service like E-mail or Teams, you will be sent a code via text message. Be sure to choose the "Text Message" option when you sign up.

There are other options for verification, including downloading an Authenticator app for your phone or receiving a phone call each time, but text messaging is the simplest to set up and use.

You will not be prompted again until something in your "configuration" changes (StarID password, new computer, etc.).

MFA Resources

The System office has created a few documents with more detail, check these out:

MFA is shown to be extremely effective at reducing the risk of someone gaining unauthorized access to your account. While no technology is completely secure, it's a darned smart thing to have enabled for all kinds of stuff like your personal e-mail, Amazon or other shopping accounts, and banking.
