MSC Southeast DECA chapter qualifies for nationals in Washington, DC April 11-14

In February, the Minnesota State College Southeast chapter of DECA recently participated in the State Career Development Conference (SCDC) in Minnetonka, MN. 8 of our students successfully qualified to go on nationals in Washington, DC April 11-14, 2018!

DECA is an organization that prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality, sales, and management. Participation in DECA is an excellent way to improve personal growth, network, and bridge the gap between school and the real world.

At the state conference in February, 10 MSC Southeast DECA students competed successfully in various single and team events in a wide variety of categories. The students were: Tristan Drazkowski, Olivia Flynn, Al Garcia, Jacob Hirschi, Averi Hunter, Samantha Johnson, Elijah Reusgen, Joe Ryan, Lizzy Wolfe, and Ian Zimmerman.

8 students were named finalists in the following categories:

  • Professional Sales: Jacob Hirschi, Tristan Drazkowski, Ian Zimmerman, Samantha Johnson, Olivia Flynn
  • Business to Business Marketing: Al Garcia & Elijah Ruesgen (Team), Tristan Drazkowski & Ian Zimmerman (Team)
  • Event Planning: Samantha Johnson & Joe Ryan (Team)

"Everybody did a great job! We all participated in multiple events and 8 students qualified to go on to the International Career Development Conference in Washington, DC in April, which is an amazing achievement," said Samantha Johnson, 2018 president of the MSC Southeast DECA chapter. "Now we're fundraising so we can all make the trip to Washington."
