Radiography Relay for Life
Students raise more than $1000 for fight against cancer
On April 24, the Southeast Technical Radiography Club participated in the American Cancer Society Relay for Life, held on the campus of Winona State University. We are happy to announce that the event raised $30,844.29, and the club raised $1,160.31, placing 15th of 32 teams!
Not only did the team exceed its fundraising goal, one of the team members, Nathan Meschefske, even donated his hair during the event as part of Pantene Beautiful Lengths, which makes wigs for people who have lost their hair during treatment for cancer.
Britni Schraufnagel was in charge of gathering items for the team's raffle basket, which was themed "Coffee Lovers." Starbucks, Gloria Jeans, Caribou, HyVee, and Blue Herron donated coffee and gift cards for the basket, which was sold in the event's silent auction. The Radiography Club also sold hot dogs, water, and candy bars. Kwik Trip donated the hot dog buns and water.
"This is the first time that a club from Southeast Tech ever participated in this event and Jessica Hemenway, the coordinator of Relay For Life, was extremely grateful. Next year she hopes to get more of our students involved!" said Team Captain Breanne Schraufnagel.
"We've helped to make a positive difference in the fight against cancer. I'm proud of what we did!" added Nathan Meschefske.
