This spring, students in the
guitar and violin labs at Minnesota State College – Southeast Technical in Red
Wing are focused intently on their work as they build flattop, archtop and
electric guitars, mandolins, ukuleles -- and at least one hurdy gurdy!
Though as of early April
these instruments are still in various stage of assembly, most of them will be
ready to play at this year’s annual Student Guitar Show on May 12. Almost 80
extraordinary new hand-crafted custom instruments will be on display. The instruments
will be played for the first time on stage by professional Twin Cities
musicians, including Bill Cagley, Sarah Cagley, Mike Cramer, and Phil Heywood.
Guitar Raffle
Instructor David Vincent and other faculty members have contributed to the construction of a beautiful handmade steel string guitar which will be raffled off at the Guitar Show. Raffle tickets are only $5.00; proceeds benefit the Roger Benedict Memorial Scholarship Fund, supporting Southeast Technical students in the string instrument repair and building programs. Tickets are on sale in the college bookstores; need not be present to win.
