Minnesota State College - Southeast Technical named to 2015 Military Friendly Schools list

Beyond the Yellow Ribbon Scholarship Donation - 2014
Beyond the Yellow Ribbon of Hiawatha Valley presented a check for $2000 to Southeast Technical Foundation on September 25, 2014, to be used for Red Wing veterans scholarships.

We are excited to announce that our college has been designated a 2015 Military Friendly(R) School by Victory Media, the leader in successfully connecting the military and civilian worlds. Now in its sixth year, the Military Friendly Schools designation and list by Victory Media is the premier, trusted resource for post-military success. Military Friendly provides service members transparent, data-driven ratings about post-military education and career opportunities.

The Military Friendly(R) Schools designation is awarded to the top 15 percent of colleges, universities and trade schools in the country that are doing the most to embrace military students, and to dedicate resources to ensure their success in the classroom and after graduation.

"Southeast Technical aspires to be the 'safe landing' place when our veterans transition back to civilian life and come to school.  We want our veterans to know that we are here to support them every step of the way on their educational journey," said President Dorothy Duran.

The college has planned two informal Veterans Breakfasts this fall. Southeast Technical student veterans are invited to join Dr. Duran, Veterans Assistance Coordinator Mark Larsen, Criminal Justice Instructor Greg Cady, Student Services Vice President Nate Emerson, and VA Certifying Official Pamela Zimmerman at one of breakfasts planned for Winona on October 7 and Red Wing on October 8.

"At these breakfasts, my hope is to share the services available to our veterans and learn how we can best support them as they continue their education," said Dr. Duran.

  • If you are a student-veteran and would like to attend one of the Veterans Breakfasts, please contact Casie Johnson (507-453-2663 or [email protected]) by October 3 for more information and to RSVP.

Beyond the Yellow Ribbon LogoMark Larsen, Veterans Assistance Coordinator for the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs, stated, "Southeast Technical is exemplary in the level of effort they put forward to make veterans welcome. As a vet myself I honestly think any veteran would feel fully supported and at home at Southeast Technical."

It has been a good week for veterans at Southeast Technical! In addition to the Military Friendly Schools (R) designation and the invitation to attend a Veterans Breakfast, Beyond the Yellow Ribbon of Hiawatha Valley made a presentation of $2000 to Southeast Technical Foundation on September 25, to be used expressly for support of Red Wing campus student-veterans. A $1000 scholarship is now available for Spring term, 2015, and $1000 will be awarded for Fall 2015. For more information about applying for a scholarship, see the Southeast Technical Foundation scholarships page.
