Software Development & SupportGreatValueColleges.net has announced its rankings for the top 10 colleges for an online Associate Degree in Computer Engineering/Computer Information Science, naming Minnesota State College Southeast's Associate of Applied Science degree in Software & Web Development the #1 online program in the nation.

The website organizes its annual list of the Top 10 great value colleges to help prospective students find the programs that best that fit their interests and budget.  Rankings* are based on:

  1. Tuition value (ten points)
  2. Relevancy of the curriculum to the demands of the field (ten points)
  3. Low student to faculty ratio (ten points)
  4. In case of a tie on points, schools are ranked in order of decreasing tuition.

Minnesota State College Southeast's program was ranked ahead of Central Lakes College, Brainerd, MN (#2), Thomas Edison State University, Trenton, NJ (#5), Community College of Allegheny County, Pittsburgh, PA (#6), and University of Toledo, OH (#10).

At Minnesota State College Southeast, Software Development & Support students learn computer programming, web development, and information technology support using a hands-on approach. A rich online application environment, instructor developed recordings, and computer programming demonstrations make learning convenient for online learners.

"Our courses provide the best value not just in terms of cost, but also in the quality of instruction. All of the lessons and exercises are designed to move students through the process of becoming software developers," according to Mark Swanson, Software Development and Support instructor. "Students learn a wide variety of skills ranging from broad concepts down to the details of coding for different environments. Our students also use hands-on learning and cutting edge tools to create a production-level system of their own design."

The 60-credit Associate of Applied Science in Software & Web Development includes 16 credits of general education requirements and 44 credits of technical requirements.

This is the second time MSC Southeast has been recognized by GreatValueColleges.net. In January, the college's Cyber and Information Security program was ranked #1 nationwide by the website.

"We take great pride in maintaining the highest standards for our programs and ensuring that curriculum is constantly revised to reflect the ever-changing technology landscape," says MSC Southeast Dean of Trade and Technology Travis Thul. "This #1 designation is truly an honor and we look forward to continuing to strive towards excellence."
