MSC Southeast Practical Nursing NCLEX(R) Test Results soar to 100% -- well above state, national averages

College's Practical Nursing program achieves NCLEX-PN (R) year-to-date success rate of 96.30% for 2018

Practical Nursing Program at MSC SoutheastWhen it comes to nursing education programs, success is measured by the percent of students who pass their board exams on the first try. High pass rates indicate that students will receive a quality education and be well-prepared to enter the workforce.

Minnesota State College Southeast Dean of Health Jennifer Eccles is pleased to announce that the college's Practical Nursing  program achieved a NCLEX-PN (R) first time success rate of 100% for the second quarter of 2018. Out of 15 students who sat for the exam, 15 passed on their first attempt. The program's 2018 year-to-date success rate is 96.30%.

"Our practical nursing graduates are a real credit to MSC Southeast," reports Jennifer Eccles. "I also commend the faculty and staff who have played such a large role in educating and supporting them. They put their heart into this work, and it shows."

First time pass rates have been steadily rising in the past year; both the second quarter and year-to-date rates are well above state and national averages for similar programs.

Fall 2018 Start in Red Wing may still be still possible

The Practical Nursing program is already filled on the Winona campus for Fall 2018, but it may still be possible for qualified students to enroll in Practical Nursing at the college's Red Wing campus. Prospective nursing students are encouraged to complete the application process immediately. Contact Admission Representative Laura Thomas at 651-385-6330 or [email protected] for assistance.

The Practical Nursing major is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide direct nursing care to patients in hospitals, nursing homes, clinics, home and community-based settings within the scope of practice of a Practical Nurse. This challenging 2-semester program requires students to demonstrate competence in classroom theory, laboratory experiences, simulated events, and supervised clinical rotations.

MSC Southeast's Practical Nursing program is accredited by ACEN (Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing) and is in good standing with the Minnesota Board of Nursing.

Six New Transfer Pathways degrees pave the way from Minnesota State College Southeast to 4-year university degree

UniversityWhat are your long-term goals in higher education? If you plan on a career in business, accounting, or working with people, you may already have a college major in mind. Or perhaps you're curious about history or have a passion for physical fitness. Beginning with a Transfer Pathway degree at Minnesota State College Southeast can set you on a smooth route toward getting a 4-year bachelor's degree in any of these areas.

MSC Southeast now offers six different Transfer Pathways degrees, which are designed for students to begin with a specific degree at MSC Southeast and then transfer to a related major at a Minnesota State university.  These degrees cover all or most of the general education credits that are required in the first two years of college, plus additional credits that apply specifically to the major students want to pursue.

The college's new Transfer Pathways degrees are: Accounting Transfer Pathway, Business Transfer Pathway, Exercise Science Transfer PathwayHistory Transfer Pathway, Pre-Social Work Transfer Pathway, and Psychology Transfer Pathway.

Transfer Pathways degrees will transfer directly to related programs at the seven Minnesota State universities: Bemidji State University, Metropolitan State University, Minnesota State University, Mankato, Minnesota State University Moorhead, Southwest Minnesota State University, St. Cloud State University, and Winona State University.

MSC Southeast Dean of Academics Jo Poncelet is enthusiastic about the new opportunities students will enjoy. "Our students will find it much easier to transfer and continue their studies at one of the great universities of Minnesota State. They will be able to begin working on a college major while they're enrolled here."

Why enroll in a Transfer Pathway degree?

For most people, it's a matter of saving time and money.

  • High school students taking PSEO can get a jump start on a 4-year degree.
  • Local students can commute to MSC Southeast from home, saving on living expenses.
  • All credits transfer --- no losing credits or taking extra courses.
  • Tuition at MSC Southeast is only $167.29 per semester credit, much less than at a four-year university or private college.

Jo Poncelet noted that, "Students can expect the same high quality of instruction from our faculty, and they can save thousands of dollars on their education by beginning with a Transfer Pathways degree from MSC Southeast."

If a student completes a Transfer Pathway degree program at a Minnesota State college and is admitted to any of the 7 Minnesota State universities, the student will be guaranteed junior status and given assurance that all 60 college credits will count toward the related bachelor's degree. Students must still meet any special admission requirement for the major and are not guaranteed admission into the major itself.
