USMC presents student with award

Since the early 1990s, Minnesota State College Southeast has been honored to be the sole college selected to train United States Marine Corps (USMC) band instrument repair personnel. This year we are working with two students who are active duty service members stationed in Red Wing during their tenure. Following their training, they will serve as repair staff at USMC bases around the globe.

On Tuesday, December 6, 2023, the college hosted a visit from Chief Warrant Officer Jack Davis, Commanding Officer of the Marine Detachment Naval School of Music in Virginia Beach, VA, and Master Gunnery Sergeant Andrew Cox, Senior Enlisted Advisor, Naval School of Music. They came to Red Wing to become more familiar with the college, learn how this year's attendees are doing, and observe the students at work in the brass and woodwind shops.

While on campus, they presented one of our students, Staff Sergeant William F. Hershey III, with a United States Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal. Although they were not in uniform, the award was presented in a brief, but very formal, ceremony with students from both sections of Band Instrument Repair looking on.
