MSCS bringing in sustainable agriculture experts from Belize for February events

Winona, MN (February 21, 2018) -- This month, Minnesota State College Southeast will be hosting a regional speaking tour for Christopher and Celini Nesbitt, experts in sustainable agriculture and founders of the Maya Mountain Research Farm in Belize.

Their schedule will include several private and public speaking events. They will give a presentation at the Midwest Organic and Sustainable Education Service Conference in La Crosse and are scheduled for an interview with Minnesota Public Radio.

On Thursday February 22, 2018 (5 pm) the public is invited to meet the Nesbitts when Christopher Nesbitt presents "The Future of Farming --- Lessons from the Tropics" at Minnesota State College Southeast, Tandeski Center. Tickets are $25 per person, which includes a vegetarian dinner. Advance registration is required; please go to www.southeastmn.one/training or call 507-453-1440.

Since 1988, the Maya Mountain Research Farm has been promoting sustainable food production, agroforestry, and permaculture in the tropical lowlands of Belize. Over the course of thirty years, the Nesbitts have transformed a degraded citrus farm into a lush food-forest that has become an integral component of the local Mayan community and natural ecosystem.

In addition, the Maya Mountain Research Farm serves as an experiential learning center, hosting students and researchers from around the globe.  More information on the Maya Mountain Research Farm is available at www.mmrfbz.org.   For more information about the February speaking tour, contact MSCS Biology Instructor Elizabeth Micheel at 507-453-1477 or  [email protected]
