Practical Nursing NCLEX(R) Test Results rise at MSC Southeast -- above state, national averages
Practical Nursing at MSC Southeast achieves NCLEX-PN (R) first time success rate of 88.89% for 2017
(Red Wing, MN) January 17, 2018 --- Dean of Health Jennifer Eccles is pleased to announce that Minnesota State College Southeast's Practical Nursing program achieved an annual NCLEX-PN (R) first time success rate of 88.89% for 2017.
"This rate is higher than both the national average and state average," she reports. "Our Practical Nursing program is going strong. This program is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) and in good standing with the Minnesota Board of Nursing."
The Practical Nursing major is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide direct nursing care to patients in hospitals, nursing homes, clinics, home and community-based settings within the scope of practice of a Practical Nurse.
This challenging 2-semester program requires students to demonstrate competence in classroom theory, laboratory experiences, simulated events, and supervised clinical rotations.
Like most careers in the healthcare field, the job outlook for Practical Nurses is excellent. As the population ages and reaches retirement age, more frequent healthcare, including checkups and emergency care, will be needed. The U.S. Department of Labor projects 16% job growth in Practical Nursing through 2024. In 2016, annual salaries in Minnesota ranged from $33,890 - $54,710, with a median salary of $43,830.
Practical Nursing is one of the largest major offerings at Minnesota State College Southeast. "At this time, we have almost 60 students enrolled in Practical Nursing," Jennifer Eccles says. "Students wanting to start in the program should apply after February 15 for a Fall 2018 start. Priority acceptance will begin on May 1. Applications will be accepted until June 15, pending space availability."
The Practical Nursing program at MSC Southeast is offered on both the Red Wing and Winona campuses. For more information, visit www.southeastmn.one.
