Bernstrom brings the jungle to life

Eucalyptus probably is not a common word in a young child's vocabulary. Ask author Daniel Bernstrom of Red Wing, however, and he can tell you his 3-year-old daughter uses the four-syllable tree name with ease.

Last month, Harper Collins Publishing released Bernstrom's first children's book, "One Day in the Eucalyptus, Eucalyptus Tree." His daughter, LaVonne, is a big fan....

...A career opportunity brought Bernstrom, his wife and two children to the Red Wing area three years ago.

Bernstrom is the Learning Resource Center coordinator at the Minnesota State College - Southeast Technical's Red Wing campus.

"The resource center provides tutoring and testing support to the campus," Bernstrom said.

As Bernstrom provides support to students, the support has become mutual as they learn of his writing career.

"The staff and students are really excited about the book," Bernstrom said. "They have been so supportive and encouraging during this whole process."
