Minnesota State College Southeast, previously known as Minnesota State College --- Southeast Technical, announced today the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities Board of Trustees approved a change in mission, allowing the college to offer the associate of arts degree.

"Today marks a new day in the college's history. We are now a comprehensive technical and community college," Dr. Dorothy Duran, president of Minnesota State College Southeast, said in a press release.

For the past year the college has been in the process of preparing and applying for a mission change to offer both technical programs and the associate of arts degree. A presentation on this topic was made at the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities Board of Trustees meeting on May 17 and approved June 22.

"Offering the associate of arts degree will better serve the needs of students by increasing access to liberal arts and sciences coursework at the college level and by creating a more seamless transfer process to four-year institutions," Duran said.

The new degree is available beginning in the 2016-17 academic year, which begins on Aug. 22. For information, go to www.southeastmn.one.
