Republican Eagle: 'Holistic' approach gives instrument repair students perspective

Second-year guitar student David Slack, all three of his guitars near completion, was standing outside the spray booth, tucked away behind the guitar labs, when he heard an unfamiliar sound.

As most would do, Slack stuck his head in the spray booth to inquire as to the auditory oddity.

"I heard a loud crash, I was there, I saw Justin's face -- a friend of mine who was in shock and pale -- and I turned around and saw a guitar laying on its face and thought, 'That's odd, that looks like a guitar,' and then, 'That's odd, that looks like my guitar,'" Slack recalled.

Slack's guitar had fallen from the drying rack, splintering the back of his guitar, potentially erasing month's worth of work.
