Republican Eagle: Criminal justice program stands strong in face of backlash

On the heels of recent events, which thrust police practices into the national spotlight, Greg Cady, criminal justice instructor at Minnesota State College-Southeast Technical, said it's more important than ever to have dedicated, motivated professionals in the field.

With its beginnings in 2009, Cady said, Southeast Technical's criminal justice program was built on the needs of area law enforcement, and instructors bring more than 150 years of combined experience in the criminal justice field.

Enrollment numbers have remained fairly steady at Southeast Technical, Cady said, with most years seeing 50 to 60 students. This fall, 51 students are enrolled in the criminal justice program and eight are enrolled in a newly implemented cyber information and security program.

Cady, who also serves in the Naval Reserve, said the level of expertise provided by current instructors serves to comfort and build confidence for students entering the program.
