Winona Daily News: WSU pitches new plan for baseball field -- at Southeast Tech

Winona State University has a new pitch for building a baseball field. The university announced Friday it plans to partner with Southeast Tech and build the field on 7 acres of land the tech school owns on its main campus on Winona's east end.
The plan would keep the field within Winona, and given the location -- on state-owned land already off city tax rolls, with few residential neighbors, and away from city recreational land -- it may not generate the kind of controversy that arose over WSU's previously proposed location in Lake Park.
WSU president Scott Olson and Southeast Tech president Dorothy Duran both praised the partnership Friday in prepared statements.
"This is a wonderful example of collaboration between two sister institutions," Olson said. "We're thinking and working together differently, and making use of valuable shared assets."
"This is a great opportunity for WSU and Southeast Technical to build on the services we already share and collaborate on a community project together," Duran said.
The two colleges plan to have a community meeting on the proposal on Tuesday, Oct. 13, at Southeast Tech.
