Winoa Daily News: Southeast Tech carpentry students complete annual project house

When students graduate from Southeast Technical College's carpentry program, they don't just understand what it takes to build a house -- they've actually done it.

Each year, under the guidance of instructor Ralph Roemer, the students build a house for a real-life client, from groundbreaking to final touches. The group will celebrate the completion of this year's project, a single-story home just south of Pickwick Mill on County Road 7, with an open house on Sunday.

This year's 1,560-square-foot home features a walk-out basement, four bedrooms and three full bathrooms. There's a two-car garage on the front side of the house as well as a tuck-under single garage or workroom space on the lower level.
