Wednesday night, at Red Wing High School, Beckie Taylor attended the Minnesota State College-Southeast Technical graduation. But this graduation was different. 

For the first time in her life it was her own.

Six days prior, she sat at Perkins across the table from her husband, speaking slowly, methodically, each metered word seemingly hanging in the air, holding loosely to its predecessor, a thin line stringing the words together. They weren't her words, however; they were her husband's.

At the end of this month, Beckie and Nathan Taylor III will celebrate their 12-year wedding anniversary.

On May 4, 2000, Nate was a passenger in a car when it was struck by a semitrailer, killing his brother, who was driving, and leaving Nate near death and paralyzed from the chin down.
