RED WING, Minn. (KTTC) -- It's one thing to be able to pick up a guitar and strum along a chord progression or jam out a killer riff. But to have the skill to craft that instrument from nothing is another thing entirely.

Southeast Technical College in Red Wing has created a program that hits all the right notes, combining woodworking and music.

The college's Guitar Design and Repair features students creating a variety of instruments, including acoustic guitars and mandolins. While the program has landed former students jobs at guitar companies and repair shops, the best part for longtime instructor David Vincent is the moment the guitar is ready to play.

"Not only do I have a finished product that I can show, I have an instrument I can put in a musician's hands and listen to it and hear it," said Vincent.
