Southeast offering North Star Promise Scholarship Program information sessions in Red Wing, Winona, and on Zoom

Winona and Red Wing, MN (July 9, 2024) - College-bound students and adult learners are excited about the North Star Promise, a new state-funded scholarship program designed to provide a tuition-free pathway to higher education for eligible Minnesotan residents. But many students have questions about whether they are eligible and how the program works.

To help answer those questions, Minnesota State College Southeast is offering public information sessions in Red Wing and Winona at the end of July.

Beginning in Fall 2024, the North Star Promise (NSP) Scholarship program will create a tuition and fee-free pathway to higher education for eligible Minnesota residents at all public colleges and universities in the state. It is a "last-dollar" program that will cover the balance of tuition and fees remaining after other scholarships, grants, stipends, and tuition waivers have been applied.

The North Star Promise is available to students who have a family Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) as reported on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or Minnesota Dream Act Application below $80,000.

Additional eligibility requirements apply, but there are no age restrictions on the North Star Promise Scholarship Program. "For example, eligible adult learners can use North Star Promise funding to upskill, reskill, or train for an entirely new career," said Winona Admissions Advisor Chris Cook.

The North Star Promise Scholarship will make it possible for eligible students to attend any program at Southeast for a certificate, diploma, or degree.

"Students who are planning to go on for a bachelor's degree can start with a transfer pathway degree at Southeast and transfer to any state public university, including Minnesota State universities and the University of Minnesota," said Red Wing Admissions Advisory Easton McCready.
