Marsha Danielson grew up in a big family with 10 siblings in Southwest Minnesota. She was the first in her family to go to college, and she began her post-secondary journey at a community college. "We were a pretty low-income family, and so I lived with my sister and took care of her kids when she needed me to in exchange for a place to stay," Danielson said. Today, Danielson has not only earned a number of degrees and served at several collegiate institutions; she is the new president of Minnesota State College Southeast (MSC Southeast). A first-generation college graduate from Southwest Minnesota has become Minnesota State College Southeast's new president. Dr. Marsha Danielson, the daughter of two small-town entrepreneurs, grew up with a passion for learning that would inspire her to want to enter into the education field, while also working on her other passions of supporting diversity in communities and making sure people have hope -- which she believes everyone needs to be successful. "The Client." "The Accomplice." "The Whistler." If John Grisham's next novel is "The College" -- and even if it's not -- Dr. Marsha Danielson likely will be among the first people to purchase it.
"I've read every single book of his," she confesses. "I like the courtroom drama."
She might not get that next Grisham book read right away, however.
Danielson put casual reading aside for things strictly academic in nature this summer. A little over one month into her Minnesota State College Southeast presidency, she is laser focused on delving into the Red Wing and Winona campuses, reading reports, assessing needs, and exploring high impact practices reported in the Chronicle of Education.
