International student returns to MSC Southeast in Red Wing to give band instrument repair clinic
Keiko Tsuda has been invited to share her expertise with current students on November 19
Red Wing, MN (November 15, 2019) --- Originally from Japan, Keiko Tsuda studied saxophone performance at Senzoku Gakuen College of Music near Tokyo and lived in Australia before coming all the way to Red Wing, Minnesota to master the craft of band instrument repair.
After graduating from Minnesota State College Southeast's Band Instrument Repair program in 2017, Keiko joined the staff of Tim's Music in California where she currently works with one of the most well-regarded technicians in the field, Scott Mandeville.
Keiko (pronounced "Kay-Koh") has been invited by her alma mater to present a clinic for current students on clarinet repair at 3 pm on Tuesday, November 19, 2019. Knowing there are many ways to fix a problem, Keiko will present key concepts and techniques on clarinet repair that she considers to be very efficient and effective. The concepts Keiko will share can also be applied when repairing other instruments. Specific tools and techniques will be demonstrated.

Under Master Technician Scott Mandeville's close mentorship, Keiko works continuously to perfect her craft, refine her knowledge of repair, and serve the needs of players. She networks with repair technicians worldwide by attending National Association of Professional Band Instrument Repair Technicians (NAPBIRT) conferences and other industry related clinics and events. She is currently serving as secretary of Region 7 in NAPBIRT and she will be giving a clinic on woodwind repair at the NAPBIRT Buena Park Regional clinic in 2020.
Helping students, teachers and musicians while being a part of their musical journey is her passion. She visits local schools to help with instrument maintenance and provides clinics to music educators.
Keiko was not only an outstanding student during her time at MSC Southeast, she was a memorable performer. She participated in the college's annual Strings, Winds & Brass performance at the Sheldon Theatre, leading an outstanding jazz-rock ensemble called Blue Wing, and was featured in multiple acts on the saxophone.
