Red Wing, MN (April 3, 2019) -- As Red Wing's signature event honoring business women in the community, the Women's Leadership Event has been held every spring for 33 years! On Wednesday, April 17, 2019, Red Wing area women will gather to celebrate the accomplishments of business women in the community while enjoying an enjoyable day out at Treasure Island Event Center.

The Women's Leadership Event runs from 11 am to 3:30 pm and includes a Business Expo, plated luncheon, a fashion show presented by Whimsy's Closet, and an array of fabulous door prizes donated by area businesses. Ava Eekhoff of Classic Hits KWNG 106 will serve as M.C. and the keynote speaker will be Katy Smith (pictured).

Christy Rikli has served on the planning committee for the Women's Leadership Event for more than 20 years. "I believe this is the third time Katy Smith has spoken to us over the 33 years, so she gets to speak to us once a decade!" she said. "I love her energy and her ability to connect with the audience. She's so engaging -- and funny! -- but she will also share a message that inspires our audience. I'm very excited that she's coming back."

Katy Smith's topic is "Inspirement Planning," which she describes as the time in and away from work that fuels your passion. "The key to 'inspirement' is knowing who you are and what makes your heart sing," Katy said. Katy is an educator, a trainer, and the 2011 Minnesota Teacher of the Year. She is the first early childhood teacher in Minnesota, and the first parent educator nationally, to be honored with the award.

Each year, the Women's Leadership Event celebrates outstanding women in the area with the Business Woman of the Year Award. Accomplished business women are nominated anonymously and recognized at the event. All nominees receive a special gift and certificate. The winner will receive a prize package valued at over $400 compliments of Express Employment Professionals.

"By honoring different women every year, we get to have a fresh perspective of women's accomplishments in the workplace. To me, that is why the Women's Leadership Event has been a success for more than 30 years, because that is the core of what the day is -- recognizing women and the positive contributions they make at work," said Christy Rikli.

Advance registration is required (go to www.southeastmn.one/leadership to register). The deadline is Friday, April 12. For more information, contact Calli Ekblad, [email protected] or 651-385-6320.

The Women's Leadership Event is sponsored by Minnesota State College Southeast, Express Employment Professionals, KWNG 106, Red Wing Area Chamber of Commerce, Red Wing Republican-Eagle, StarTech Computing, and Whimsy's Closet.
