229 - Recording Class Lectures

PART 1: POLICY
Minnesota State College Southeast prohibits the use of any individual audio or video recording devices by students to record class lectures unless they have the express written consent of the faculty member. Students who have the express written consent of a faculty member to individually record a class must make their own arrangements to record the class, and those arrangements must not be disruptive nor interfere with the normal faculty-learner interaction process. Individual permission to record a class applies exclusively to the student who received written permission from the faculty member. The recording may not be accessed by, utilized by, or disseminated to any other individual. No duplication of the recording may be made without the express written permission of the faculty member.
Any faculty member may make any changes to the procedure regarding the recording of his or her own classes as a result of potential interference relative to the normal faculty-learner interaction process.
In accordance with the above policy, all students should be aware that any discussions held therein, may be subject to recording.
Students who are requesting recording of classes under the provisions of the Americans with Disabilities Act, or Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, must contact Student Services and complete a Student Accommodation Request (SAR) form.
Timeline for retention of any and all audio or video recordings: Students who have received the express written consent of a faculty member to individually record a class must delete any recorded information within one academic term after their grade has been posted to their official transcript.
