205 - Program Review and Quality Assurance

PART 1. POLICY

Each Minnesota state college and university is required by Board of Trustees Policy 3.36 to "review all academic programs and departments with respect to a) contribution to the mission and academic master plan of the institution; b) performance on System accountability standards, measures, and procedures, as well as accreditation, licensure or certification requirements; and c) other factors as appropriate. The results of the review are then to be used by the institution to plan strategies for continuous quality improvement."

CAO, Deans, Coordinators, Directors, Department Chairs, Faculty, Students, and Advisory Committee Members

Process

Each program will undergo a Program Review a minimum of once every four years.  Program Review will occur each Spring, with roughly 25% of academic programs presenting to the Executive Cabinet annually.  The supervising dean will schedule the meeting with the program faculty and the executive cabinet.  Program faculty will provide the following items prior to the meeting:

  1. Completed Plan Workbook
  2. Current cost study information 
  3. Needs list comprised of:
    a. Cost estimate summary of short- and long-term goals
    b. Facilities
    c. Personnel
    d. Tooling/Equipment
    e. Professional Development
    f. Marketing wants and needs
    g. Instructional Technology wants and needs
    h. Other wants and needs

The goal of the Program Review is to develop a program improvement plans that help the program achieve short- and long-term goals.  

Official documents

The supervising dean will place the official electronic document in H:\Program Review documents\Results from programs\20**cohort. Each dean and program should maintain a copy. 

Annual updates will be presented to the supervising dean each spring in the years between full reviews.  Annual Updates are to be stored in the appropriate cohort year folder
